Problem FAQs

Administrator's Computer

The web form designer does not load

If you have a personal firewall installed, e.g. ZoneAlarm, set the Internet Zone security settings to medium. The java applet will then load in order to display the form designer.

The web form designer sometimes does not display all of the form properties

If a blank space has appeared over some of the form properties, press the F5 button on your keyboard or the refresh button in your web browser. Sometimes java does not correctly display the form items even though they are present and refreshing the page solves this.

Pressing the Trial button does not generate an applet – nothing happens

If you select the ‘Trial’ button when generating an applet and nothing happens, you will need to upgrade to the latest version of Sun’s JRE – currently v1.5.  This can be downloaded from the following URL (correct when this manual was released) - Sun JRE 1.5

User Computers

The secure form is not displayed

Users must accept the designer applet or the form applet signature as being valid. If the user doesn't accept the signatures (chooses "No" in security warning dialog) the applet will not run and your secure form will not be displayed.

The secure form is not sent when the submit button is pressed

When sending form data by e-mail:

Firewalls that filter traffic by application, such as ZoneAlarm, may warn (or even block the request if this has been set) the user that an application (the browser application) is trying to send an Email.   Users may need to be notified to allow the application to send Email.

Form submission won't be possible when the user's ISP does not allow connections to other SMTP servers.  This will not happen when form designer uses a SMTP server from the same network and for the majority of ISP’s this is not an issue.

When sending form data by http:

In some networks outgoing traffic for port 80 may be blocked and a proxy used for browsing.  In this situation FormsAssurity won't work because it requires direct connection thru port 80.  If there is no HTTP proxy, this is not an issue.  Currently this is not configurable.  In the vast majority of cases port 80 will be available to support Internet services.
