Using FAOPGP Lite
FAOPGP GUI
When FAOPGP is started from the
icon in the Windows Start Menu or from the Start > Programs > ArticSoft > FileAssurity menu the FAOPGP GUI is displayed.
Menu Options
File
Open Selected Files
Opens the selected files in their default applications. For example, if you have selected a Word document (.doc) it will be opened in Microsoft Word.
Select All Files
Selects all the files in the selected folder.
Rename Selected File or Folder
Renames the selected file or folder. Press the ENTER key after entering the new name.
Arrange Icons
By type - icons are arranged by their application type. For example, all Word documents are listed together.
By name - icons are arranged in alphabetical order regardless of their application type.
Re-open Secure File
A record of the last 18 protected files you have accessed is displayed here so you can quickly select them.
Exit
Exits the FAOPGP application.
Actions
Secure Text Editor
Changes the tree window view to a secure text editor window where you can decrypt secure text or import a PGP public key block. See Secure Text Editor.
Protect As
Before encrypting/signing the selected files using the keys selected in the ‘Encrypt For’ and ‘Sign As’ drop-down list boxes a file browser dialog box is displayed that prompts you for a new filename for each file. This is the same as selecting the 'Save As' option in other applications.
Protect Selected Files
Encrypts/signs the selected files using the keys selected in the ‘Encrypt For’ and ‘Sign As’ drop-down list boxes. See Protecting Files.
Protect and send selected files to e-mail recipients
Encrypts/signs the selected files and sends them securely via email. See E-mailing Files Securely.
Send Files to Mail Recipients
Sends non-protected files or previously protected files by email.
Secure Delete
Deletes the selected files/folders so that they are no longer recoverable. See Deleting Files Securely.
Security
Default Settings
Displays the Default Settings dialog where you configure FAOPGP default actions for handling files and folders.
Key Management
Displays the Key Manager dialog where you manage your own and other peoples keys.
Help
Help
Displays the FAOPGP help guide (this manual).
About
Displays FAOPGP's version number.
Toolbar
Encrypt For
The key displayed in this list box is is the one currently selected for encrypting files. You can select the appropriate key from the drop-down list box. Keys belonging to you and other people are displayed in this list box so that you can encrypt files for yourself or for other people. If you select 'Multiple Recipients' you will be able to make a selection from all the keys you have available. If 'Not selected' is displayed then files will not be encrypted. Group names (if available) are always displayed at the top of this list box in bold.
Sign As
The key displayed in this list box is the one currently selected for signing files. You can select the appropriate key from the drop-down list box. Only keys belonging to you are displayed in this list box. If 'Not selected' is displayed then files will not be signed.
NOTE: If this is the first time you have used FAOPGP then the value in both of these fields will always be set to ‘Not selected’. On subsequent uses, the keys you last selected will be displayed.
Protect
Pressing this button encrypts/signs the selected files in the FAOPGP window using the keys displayed in the 'Encrypt For' and 'Sign As' list boxes.
Unprotect
Pressing this button decrypts/verifies the selected files in the FAOPGP window. It does not matter what keys are displayed in the 'Encrypt For' and 'Sign As' list boxes as they are ignored by this process.
Checkboxes
E-mail - protects the selected files/archives and sends them by email. See Secure E-Mail.
