File Extensions & Technical Specifications


File Extensions
FAOPGP uses the .pgp (binary) and the .asc (ascii) file extensions to identify the status and meaning of protected files.


Technical Specifications
FAOPGP makes use of the following cryptographic standards and is compatible with the systems listed below.


Encryption Algorithms



 

AES 256 bit
(FIPS PUB 197) - Default

TDES is available for backwards compatibility with PGP v5.x and v6.x.

Decryption Algorithms

AES, Twofish, CAST, TDES

Signing Algorithms





 

RSA - 2048/3072/4096 bit

Supports any RSA key greater than 512 bits.
A minimum RSA key length of 1024 bits is required for encrypting files.

DH/DSS - (2048/3072/4096) /1024 bit

Hashing Algorithms

 

SHA-1 (160 bit) - default generated by FAOPGP

MD5 (128 bit) supported
